This book is the result of many years of collective personal experiences and exhaustive research into chronic fatigue/pain disorders. These are a range of controversial illnesses commonly referred to as: myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), chronic fatigue immune dysfunction syndrome (CFIDS), and fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS).
Both Sue and Frank have suffered from CFS - Sue from CFS/FMS, for a number of years. This book is about our personal struggles with the syndrome and the long search for recognition of this illness by practitioners. It is also about us looking for answers and treatments, and finally discovering a cure for Frank and enormous improvement for Sue.
We hope that you will enjoy reading this book as much as we did writing it. We also hope that this book will help you to have a "victory over chronic fatigue syndrome" like Frank did, and be on the road to returned health like Sue.
Notes on the Second World Congress on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
(Brussels, September 1999)
BIOSCREEN SCIENTISTS FIND ANSWERS TO THE MYSTERIES OF CFS
A summary by Frank Bartosy
Bioscreen's research findings were recently presented during the second World Congress on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in Brussels.
These findings indicate that the following microbes can potentially alter homeostasis:
1. Staphylococci
2. Mycoplasma
3. Rickettsia
4. Chlamydia
Research also shows that chronic fatigue syndrome is not a single disease, but consisits of a number of chronic "hidden" infections and unusual metabolic changes.
Viral infections are probably secondary and may be present due to the reactivation of viruses such as Herpes simplex-6, EBV and CMV. Anti-viral treatments will therefore have little value without treating the primary microbial or bacterial infection.
Treatments
Suggested treatments may include specific essential fatty acid and/or amino acid supplementation programs. Antibiotics and other prescription medications may also be necessary to achieve positive results.
