CFS and FMS Research
Book Extracts and Articles
Following is an extract taken from the book: "Victory over Chronic Fatigue Syndrome" by Frank Bartosy.
The book gives an account of recovery from 4 years of severe CFS, and explains "how and why" this was possible in the light of Bioscreen's research findings.
Frank Bartosy says: "From personal experience, I have found that essential fatty acid anomalies and chronic bacterial infections play very significant roles in the CFS disease process. The Bioscreen blood lipid test and the staphylococci toxin test are able to give detailed results in these areas".
The Stages of
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Although chronic fatigue syndrome usually appears to commence after the sufferer has had a triggering viral infection, I feel that the CFS disease process often begins a long time before this infection occurs. In fact it may begin months or years before symptoms become evident. This process can be divided into four stages.
STAGE 1: MILD EFA DEFICIENCIES CAUSE VAGUE SYMPTOMS OF ILL HEALTH
It has been recently discovered that essential fatty acid (EFA) de- ficiencies can cause immune system malfunctions. Recent scientific findings into essential fatty acids (EFAs) indicates that a healthy immune system must have sufficient levels of the right type of EFAs. It is thought that these play a major role in the chemical or antiviral pathways that effect body s immune system and inflammation responses.
It is interesting to note that EFAs were once thought to be a type of vitamin. In fact, at least one book that I have read refers to "vitamin F" as an acceptable name for essential fatty acids. Perhaps EFAs should considered to be as important as the common vitamins A, B, C and E that are so vital to our nutritional needs.
The latest available research now states that the immune systems of people deficient in any type of EFA could have difficulties in fully overcoming many infections.
Alarmingly, evidence now points to the existence of widespread EFA deficiencies in parts of the general population.
Therefore, it is probable that nutritional deficiencies are largely responsible for contributing to the cause of a range chronic diseases and disorders, including CFS.
SYMPTOMS OF EFA DEFICIENCY
There is, at the present time, little in the way of accurate information available on the symptoms of essential fatty acid deficiency. However, the following conditions are thought to be good indicators of EFA deficiency:
- extremely dry skin liver and kidney degeneration
- susceptibility to infections heart and circulation problems
- behavioural problems
- poor nail condition intestinal problems
- tiredness or fatigue
- inflammation
- arthritis-like conditions
- poor rate of wound healing.
